Through the support of Trident, Smiles Across America is able to further link schools and dental care providers to help fight untreated oral disease. The increased support provided by Trident will enable Smiles Across America to expand services for more children in underserved communities around the country to ensure they get the dental care they so urgently need.

Untreated tooth decay is the #1 unmet health care need in school children--affecting 5 times more children than asthma. In fact, over 51 million school hours are lost each year to dental problems. Children with serious oral health problems can have difficulty eating and sleeping, or concentrating in school. These problems can affect a child's health, growth, confidence, and achievement. But there is hope.

Dental disease in children can be prevented. It takes proper dental care, including the placement of dental sealants (a plastic coating placed on the chewing surfaces of teeth to prevent decay), and education programs in schools. Trident's partnership and on-going commitment with Smiles Across America helps local dental treatment partners serve more children by expanding care to more underserved communities and breaking down barriers to care.
