JUNE IS NATIONAL SMILE MONTH

National Smile Month News

National Smile Month is officially underway with a launch at the National Museum of Dentistry in Baltimore, MD, on June 5.

  • The Oral Health America Dental Survey, released on June 5, find that Americans strongly support guaranteed dental benefits in healthcare reform.  Read the press release.
  • Oral Health America’s Board of Directors recognized Dr. Hazel J. Harper for her leadership role as co-founder and project director for the Deamonte Driver Dental Project.  Dr. Harper received the Marvin Goldstein Outstanding Volunteer Award on June 5 at the National Smile Month program launch.  Read the press release.
  • On June 2, Oral Health America and the Hispanic Dental Association called on Americans to help their family members “mantener una boca saludable con un cuerpo saludable,” or “maintain a healthy mouth in a healthy body.” The organizations collaborated on a National Smile Month press release that was distributed to the Hispanic media to promote the importance of oral health.  Take a look at the release in Spanish and English!
  • National Smile Month originates in the U.K., hosted by the International Dental Health Foundation, which founded National Smile campaigns over 30 years ago.  Our colleagues at the International Dental Health Foundation generously shared the concept and program materials with Oral Health America in 2008 to create the largest independent international oral health campaign!  Visit www.nationalsmileweek.org to see how National Smile Month is celebrated across the Atlantic and read oral health news from the U.K.

Oral Health America changes lives by connecting communities with resources to increase access to care, education, and advocacy for all Americans, especially those most vulnerable.
