DEAR FRIENDS OF ORAL HEALTH AMERICA,
Have you ever wondered whether your gift to Oral Health America really counts - whether the need is greater in your own backyard? Look no further than this inspiring picture for your answer! Your gift of oral health is a life-giving gift for children and adults in urban and rural communities accross the country, like Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
When you give to OHA, you are supporting a 501 (c)(3) organization with a fully tax deductible gift. Moreover, we are told over and over again that support from OHA often stimulates local giving to our community partners based on the confidence shown through support from a well-respected national organization.
Oral Health America's Annual Fund provides essential support for communities from individuals like you who believe that all Americans should be able to obtain the dental care they need. Your dollars also help educate the public about the importance of a healthy mouth and advocate for policies that can change the lives of all Americans, especially those most vulnerable.
Gifts from corporations and other organizations have provided strong support for OHA over the years. However, no organization can fulfill their mission without robust individual giving.
Please be a part of our mission by helping OHA raise the final $139,000 needed in 2009. CLICK HERE so that OHA can continue to bring healthy mouths to life! With gratitude and best wishes for a happy holiday season,
President and CEO |

When your mouth is healthy, you can be a star. That's the message in Oral Health America's new branding image. The energetic figure celebrates health and wellness. The shining star symbolizes the energy and life that a healthy mouth brings to the whole body, and represents our intention to speak up for all Americans, and to advocate for programs and policies that improve oral health. At least five Surgeon Generals have declared that there's an important link between oral and overall health, achievement and productivity.
Our goal is to help advance the oral health of all Americans, especially those most vulnerable. In the spirit of our new logo, we can't wait to move forward in Bringing Healthy Mouths to Life. |
CORPORATE DONOR: HENRY SCHEIN, INC.
On November 30, at the Greater New York Dental Meeting, Henry Schein, Inc., the largest distributor of health care products and services, unveiled a new logo for Oral Health America, and presented a check to the organization for $10,000.
"The new design aims to clarify OHA as the American public's advocate for oral health, support and communicate its new mission, and highlight oral health as an important component of one's overall health and well being," said Maureen Knott, Marketing Director-Advertising at Henry Schein, and OHA Board Member. "After much collaboration to understand OHA's goals, Henry Schein created a logo featuring a simple, bold figure to convey the importance of taking a proactive stance with respect to both oral and total health."
Henry Schein designed OHA's previous logo in 1994 and has been a committed supporter of the organization since 1981.
"Henry Schein's new logo design for Oral Health America is an especially meaningful gift because it captures the energy and vitality behind our mission," said Beth Truett, President and CEO, Oral Health America. "It was a pleasure to work with the Henry Schein branding team to update our 'look' and help us communicate our commitment to bringing healthy smiles to life."

SMILES ACROSS AMERICA® IN LAS VEGAS
OHA Board Member Lorene Kent, Publisher of Belmont Publications, Inc., and OHA Director of Finance and Business Operations Tom Mesich visited Las Vegas on October 22 to help break ground for the brand new NAIOP Casey Jones Health Center at Elaine Wynn Elementary School. OHA presented a Smiles Across America®
grant of $20,000 to Elaine Wynn, Director of Wynn Resorts, Ltd., and Chairman of Communities in Schools, and Louise Helton, Director of Communities in Schools, Nevada, to support their Future Smiles school oral health program.
"At this difficult time in our world we are so fortunate to have wonderful people and organizations, like NAOIP and Oral Health America, who want to do the right thing by helping those hardest hit by the current economy," said Louise Helton, Director for Communties in Schools in Nevada. "A school-based health clinic will serve this neighborhood and will help our children to be healthier so that they can do better in school and be successful in life!"
Dan Cardinali, President of Communities in Schools based in Washington, DC, also attended the event.
"Everybody in attendance, including community members, school board officials and sponsors all showed immense enthusiasm for this new site" said Tom Mesich. "Communities in Schools hopes to have a clinic at all schools in Clark County and with the support shown so far, it's bound to happen!"

DONOR PROFILE: TONY VOLPE
Mr. Volpe, Vice President of Global Oral Care at Colgate-Palmolive is a long time supporter of Oral Health America and we thank him for his generosity!
OHA: What do you find most compelling about OHA's mission to improve the oral health of the public through access, education and advocacy? Mr. Volpe: I wanted to give to an organization that I am proud of and one that strives to reach goals that are attainable and help the American public. What is most compelling about the organization to me is how apropos and contributing they are to people in need. OHA: Why did you give to OHA? Mr. Volpe: Oral Health America is a premier organization and because I have been involved and active in the dental industry for years it feels natural to give to such a wonderful organization. Supporting OHA's cause is important to me and their programs help impact many Americans in need. OHA: How do you see OHA having an impact on oral health disparities now and in the future? Mr. Volpe: Oral Health America's mission statement says it all. They educate, advocate and provide access to care; those three things will help make a large impact in this country. In addition, OHA has many programs in places, such as Smiles Across America, that help Americans obtain the care they need; their programs will significantly contribute to reducing the disparities in our country. |
SENATE HEALTH REFORM UPDATEMore than two dozen important oral health provisions are included in the Senate's version of health care reform, such as:
- Expansion of insurance coverage for children's oral health services
- Expansion of eligibility for preventive oral health service without co-payments
- Expansion of public education and school-based sealant programs in all 50 states
- Research grants for management of oral disease
- Measures to address diversity and cultural competency among dental care providers
- Exploration of new solutions for dental professionals to care for rural and underserved populations
OHA's recent advocacy efforts have included supporting an amendment by Senator Casey (D-PA) to extend the Children's Health Insurance Program to 2019. Congress is listening, and oral health is part of the conversation.
In this last month of the year, we urge you to contact your Senators, and tell them that oral health care is important to you and why!
State: Healthcare reform must provide universal coverage including oral health benefits and access to high-quality, cost-effective oral health care services for all Americans, especially those most vulnerable. Find local phone numbers for your elected officials here: http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml. Share your experience in contacting them with us at info@oralhealthamerica.org. We look forward to hearing from you. |
